This episode is so, so amazing and especially this scene. I LOVE it as a follow up to the first ep too, because the first ep was sort of like, SURPRISE, unforeseeable events kind of damaged the front-runner and Birgitte's doing well was not expected. Not that she didn't earn it by asskicking at the debate, but it all was kind of fortuitous too. Whereas in this ep, it all falls apart and she has to build it, purposefully; power doesn't come to her, she TAKES it because she can and decides to. I really love how the show always, always shows what a skilled politician she really is. This episode is the best, basically. Until tomorrow, when I rewatch episode 3? :D
Ugh I want a Birgitte vid to Handlebars, stop putting the Flobots in your music.
I do love how it shows how Birgitte forges the collation and slaps down Labour and says "You guys fucked up and the voters punished you, now we'll do things my way for a bit." And I like it because American media seems to focus so much on the race/election but the governing is where things get done and it's the HARD part.
And I still think that this has biblical parallels to when the devil took Jesus and showed him the countries of the world. Birgitte takes the devil's bargain but she has had to sacrifice so much for that power - not just on a personal level but she's had to compromise her ideals. It's like that conversation she has with Amir before he leaves Parliament. Ugh. <3 <3 <3

Yes, everything you say! Although what is also fascinating about it is she's explicitly rejecting the obvious devil's deal by rejecting Labour and Hesselboe, and the different devil's bargain she's being offered and taking here is in a much better disguise. <3 (DAMNED IF SHE DO, DAMNED IF SHE DON'T). I'm also super squeeful about all the continuity with the different politicians. I hadn't seen season 1 in awhile and I forgot some of the minor players, but Amir and the evil Freedom Party dude are around from the get-go. And she has a really nice relationship with Amir from the beginning, which I love. By which I mean, it punches me extra hard in the gut when he throws her devil's deal back at her and leaves.
